I’m Monika Heikkero, owner and artist of MOHEI CERAMICS.

I make quality kitchenware, pet dishes, and garden sculptures in an attempt to enrich every day objects with purpose and beauty. Some of my work has it’s own story to tell. I work primarily with stoneware clay, which makes the products very durable.

All my creations come from my home based studio here in the beautiful surroundings of Santa Fe, NM, USA.

However, Santa Fe has not always been my home. I was born and raised in a small village in Germany. It was in my late 19th when I got in touch with clay and fell in love with it’s earthiness and functionality. I began my 3 year training at a Trade School in Germany soon after. With a few international moves and starting up a family, I tried to create whenever time permitted. Then…FINALLY… in 2018 I stepped out of my role as a homemaker and founded MOHEI CERAMICS LLC. I’m still in a growing phase, but each step will bring me closer to my goal of a full time potter.

I find that clay is a wonderful gift from Mother Earth, through which we can tell a story.

I draw my inspirations from my immediate surroundings or anything that touches a deeper place inside me. May it be a place of wonder and dream or dealing with truths of reality.

I just as much love the spontenaity and simplicity of children’s drawings and you can sometimes find this echoed in my work as well.
